VKNJA Heavy Mace/Club Workshop

Join Master Trainer Esik Melland, VKNJA Founder and former ONNIT Steel Mace Master Trainer, for 2 1/2 hours of heavy mace and steel club work.

Steel mace training in the Viking Ninja System gets its roots from structured strength and conditioning principles. This training emphasizes symmetry and technique while hitting every plane of movement. Sealing leaks of strength through proper positioning and exceeding limitations through intelligent progression. Whether an offset strength movement or a complex sequence of movements, Viking Ninja provides the appropriate foundation for all types of steel mace training. Welcome to all levels of training.

About This Activity

A favorite course for walkers and runners that is always fast and flat. It is sanctioned and certified by USA Track & Field to ensure the accuracy of the course distance.

Registration: Please register early! (Prices increases after July 12th) Active.com registration closes Friday, August 10th at midnight Pacific time. We always order extra shirts, however, we cannot guarantee a shirt if you register after the 10th. You can register at packet pick up on the 10th & 11th and on Race day the 12th with a late fee and no shirt guaranteed.

Packet Pick-Up:  

Friday: August 9th from Noon - 7:00 pm at Sports Systems:  6915 Montgomery Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109

Saturday: August 10th from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm at Sports Systems:  6915 Montgomery Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109

Sunday: August 11th starting at 5:30 am on Race Day at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. If you decided to pick up your bib on race day, please be sure to give yourself extra time in case there is a line. 

 

Free Kids K: All Kids K participants will run for free. A $5 charge will apply to only those wishing to receive a race t-shirt. Kid sizes are Youth Small & Medium.  Just show up, sign a waiver and a bib number will be distributed to your little athlete.

Awards: There will be an awards table where medals will be distributed for all age groups. There will also be an awards ceremony to recognize the top three overall women and men in the half marathon and 5K run.  All participants will also receive finishers medals at the finish line.

Age Groups: Top 3 males and female in each age division: (14 & under; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-75; 75+). 

A Great Cause: A portion of the proceeds will benefit RUNNING 505. Running 505 is a grassroots wellness program for youth. We collaborate with the community at large to encourage our youth to live healthy lifestyles. 

Running 505 has two programs: Running Girls 505 and Running Guys 505. Each program is designed for youth to learn from, get motivated with, and become inspired by educational lessons and physical activity.  

Running 505 is designed for youth in the 5th - 8th grades. This program is funded based on community donations.

Football Combine for the top high school athletes in New Mexico and the surrounding region. NMPreps and the Performance Ranch have teamed up to bring you a top notch football combine with Laser Timed events as well as digital Vertical Jump analysis. The Performance Ranch coaches have over 30 years of experience testing athletes and helping them perform at their best. The owner Lawrence Herrera was once a Nike SPARQ trainer that helped run Nike SPARQ Combines in the past. The Performance Ranch has brought another level to testing and will make sure your scores are accurate.

Bike Maintenance Workshop with Matt Caruso

Come learn what it takes to have your bike race ready. Having a prepared bike can help save energy and time during race day.

Come learn from one of the best wrenches in the business, Matt Caruso with Caruso Cycle Works. He has over 25 years of experience and has been the wrench for several teams. Matt Caruso, also known as the “Bike Whisperer”, has been repairing bikes of all makes and models since 1983. In 1987, his skill and expertise landed him as a mechanic for the U.S. Cycling team. Beginning his career in Berkeley, California, he moved to the Duke City in 1994 to be closer to family.

Newly crowned pro triathlete Chris Tommila, will also be helping out with the workshop.

This is free for all that attend.
